Around 1 am on June 24th, 1977, at the corner of Hwy 51 and East Washington Avenue in Madison, Elvis Presley was riding in the second of two limousines returning from a concert in Des Moines when they stopped at a red light near the former Skyland Service Station. Seeing a young teen on the ground being beaten by two other youths, Elvis jumped out of his limousine and quickly approached the fight. The youths later admitted they knew the legendary Elvis Presley was standing before them in his classic karate stance, saying, "I'll take you on." After a few classic karate moves by Elvis, the youths recognized him, stood and shook hands, and promised to stop fighting. Elvis then asked, "Is everything settled now?" He then continued on his way to the Sheraton for what became his last Madison appearance, and he died 52 days later on August 16th, 1977.
