The Legacy Trail Loop centers on the history of the land now called Harvey S. Firestone Recreational Park, especially from the early 1800s to the mid-1900s. After earlier stewardship by indigenous people in pre-European settlement days, the Hanna family settled here in 1810 as early European homesteaders in Columbiana County. They and subsequent owners worked the land for more than a century until Columbiana native Harvey S. Firestone and his wife, Idabelle, purchased the tract in 1933. That same year they gave the land to the Village of Columbiana for use as a recreational park and hired landscape architect Alling DeForest to prepare a master plan. The park opened in 1935. Harvey S. Firestone died in 1938, and he and Idabelle Firestone, along with other family members, are buried in Columbiana Cemetery across East Park Avenue.
