In the early summer of 1849, after the first known death in Sessions Settlement, this plot was chosen as a cemetery. Nearly a score of people, including pioneers, Indians, and a California emigrant whose headstone is on the opposite side of the monument, were buried here. Later, sub-irrigation led the settlers to establish a new cemetery. This place joins in common brotherhood the Indians, the Mormon pioneers, and other emigrants who died in the conquering of the West.
