Mount Dana is a 13,061-foot Sierra Nevada peak on the boundary between Yosemite National Park and the Ansel Adams Wilderness, making it Yosemite’s second highest mountain and the northernmost summit in the range above 13,000 feet. Named for geologist James Dwight Dana, it is formed largely of older reddish metamorphic rock, with Dana Glacier on its north face and Dana Meadows below. Its unusual accessibility from Tioga Pass Road has made it one of Yosemite’s best-known high peaks, though the climb still involves steep, rough sections, exposure, sudden storms, lingering snow, and altitude hazards. The summit offers wide views across the surrounding high country.
