Pennypacker Mills is a historic country estate and museum in Perkiomen Township, Pennsylvania, preserving a colonial-era setting on one hundred seventy acres near Perkiomen Creek. Built around 1720 by Hans Jost Hite and bought in 1747 by Peter Pennebacker, it remained in the Pennypacker family for eight generations. In the fall of 1777, George Washington used the house as a headquarters before the Battle of Germantown, and it later served as a field hospital for wounded soldiers. The estate is also closely associated with Governor Samuel Pennypacker, who made it his summer home and later lived there year-round, leaving collections of antiques, manuscripts, and Washington documents.
