Frederick A. C. Muhlenberg was ordained a Lutheran minister in 1770 and served as a pastor for nine years. He represented Pa. at the Continental Congress from 1779-80, became Speaker of the State General Assembly from 1780-83, and presided at the State Convention that ratified the US Constitution in 1787. A Federalist, he served in the US House of Representatives from 1789-97 as its first Speaker and the first signer of the Bill of Rights. He resided here from 1781-91.
