Lions Peak
Nature
Lions Peak is a prominent hill in the eastern foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains in southwestern Santa Clara County, west of San Martin near CordeValle. One of the most recognizable landforms in the southern Santa Clara Valley, it is visible from U.S. Route 101 and California State Route 152. The peak lies within about 1,400 acres of privately owned land, and its eastern flank holds the headwaters of Lions Creek, which flows south to Llagas Creek in Gilroy. The surrounding land was once part of Rancho San Francisco de las Llagas, and nearby fires in 2008 underscored the foothills' fire-prone character.
