Jasper Bulldog Stadium, established circa 1922, became the center of the town's athletic competitions and grew steadily more popular until by 1936 its bleachers were filled at every game and the town had outgrown the facility. School officials and community leaders then sought help from the Works Progress Administration to improve it, and renovation projects began as early as January 1936. The first brought stadium lights on poles around the playing field, and after completion WPA officials and workers joined local dignitaries and fans for the first night game on Tuesday, April 28, 1936, when the senior Bulldogs played the underclassmen Pups. More work began in 1940 under architect W.C. Meador and engineer A.C. and included improved steel bleachers, a new playing surface, ticket booths, and bus shelters. Meador also designed a distinctive stone masonry entrance wall shaped like the Alamo, a rustic design suited to a Texas high school football stadium, and since 1941 its Alamo form has captured the imagination of thousands of fans and players attending athletic events.
