Mount Saint Nicholas is a sharply pointed, isolated peak in the remote southwestern part of Glacier National Park whose steep drops and separation from the Continental Divide give it one of the range’s most dramatic and sheer profiles. Its northwest face rises about one vertical mile in only about 1.5 horizontal miles, underscoring its exceptional relief. Among climbers, it is widely regarded as the park’s most dangerous and difficult mountain because even the easiest route is technical and the rock is poor. Long thought unclimbable, it was first recorded ascended in 1926 by Reverend Conrad Wellen of Havre, Montana.
