Holy Guardian Angels Church, built in 1883 for English-speaking Catholics under the direction of the Rt. Rev. Rupert Seidenbusch, OSB, was St. Cloud’s first cathedral from 1883 to 1937. Partially destroyed by fire in 1933, it stood within a complex that included a bishop’s residence built in 1876, a grade school built in 1887, a convent for Benedictine nuns built in 1910, and the area’s first high school built in 1914.
