One of about 230 markers was erected on the Boston Post Road in 1763, with locations fixed by Benjamin Franklin, the Deputy Postmaster General, who drove a chaise with a distance recorder over the route for that purpose. It was restored to its original position on June 1st, 1927, by the Village of Rye.
