Completed in 1955 in Rye, New York, this waterfront house was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright for automobile importer Max Hoffman, following Wright’s earlier showroom design for Hoffman’s Jaguar dealership in New York City. Set on North Manursing Island overlooking Long Island Sound, the low, horizontal residence used stone and plaster, a slate roof, and copper-trimmed fascia to fit its shoreline site. The property also features a Japanese-style garden by Stephen Morrell. Later changes remained connected to Wright’s circle, including a 1972 wing by Taliesin Associated Architects and a 1995 interior renovation by Emanuela Frattini Magnusson. It remains an important late Wright residence.
