The studio of Carter Church (1943-2018), best known for his elaborate Mardi Gras costumes, was located here. In addition to creating costumes for Mardi Gras royal courts, Church and his husband, artist Yancy Pogue, played prominent roles in the Mardi Gras production industry from Mobile to New Orleans and actively supported the arts and culture of the Gulf Coast region, including the establishment of the Bay St. Louis Mardi Gras Museum. In 2020, the former studio became the home of The Arts of Hancock County.
