The Colonial Theater building was constructed in 1932 at a cost of $50,000 and was built specifically as a motion picture theatre. Its original owner, Marion Sprinkle, is still remembered by the letter “S” that can be seen on the top side of each chimney. W.H. Odom was the Colonial's first operator. The theatre officially opened June 4th, 1932. The main floor had a capacity of 500 seats, with 110 seats on the mezzanine level and additional seating in the balcony. The annex building joining the Colonial Theatre, now used in conjunction with the theatre for entertaining, has over the years housed a soda fountain, bus station, photography studio, and ABC store.
