The 15th U.S. Engineers were World War volunteers who enlisted at Pittsburgh, trained at Camp D. D. Gaillard from May 23, 1917 to July 8, 1917, embarked from New York on July 9, 1917, were in England from July 19, 1917 to July 23, 1917 as the first armed foreign troops to land there since the sixteenth century, served in France from July 28, 1917 to April 13, 1819, debarked at New York on April 27, 1919, and were mustered out of service at Camp Sherman on May 15, 1919 as Pittsburgh’s Pioneer Engineers.
