Governor Dodge State Park occupies 5,270 acres north of Dodgeville in Wisconsin’s rugged Driftless Area, a landscape distinct from the state’s glaciated regions. Named for Henry Dodge, the first governor of Wisconsin Territory, it is characterized by oak and hickory forest, sandstone bluffs, small bodies of water, and the well-known Stephen’s Falls. Cox Hollow Lake and Twin Valley Lake anchor recreation with beaches, dams, boat launches, and fishing, swimming, and paddling. The park also supports hiking, cross-country skiing, mountain biking, horseback riding, hunting, snowmobiling, and extensive camping. Its varied habitat supports abundant wildlife, and volunteers help sustain recreation, education, and environmental stewardship.
