Fairy Falls is a small waterfall on the Oregon side of the Columbia River Gorge, upstream from Wahkeena Falls on a tributary of Wahkeena Creek. Dropping about 20 feet in a fan-shaped spread, it is valued less for its size than for its delicate appearance and intimate setting. Water slips over mossy rock bordered by ferns, then breaks across basalt ledges into thin, lacy streams. The contrast between soft greenery and dark volcanic stone has made it a popular subject for photographers and one of the gorge’s more intimate waterfall scenes.
