Gray Butte is a volcanic butte in central Oregon, in southeastern Jefferson County near Smith Rock. Part of the Crooked River caldera, it is made of welded tuff formed from consolidated volcanic ash and debris. A recreation trail climbs the butte and supports hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking. Its geology and its closeness to Smith Rock place it within the broader volcanic landscape that attracts visitors to this part of Oregon.
