In Monroe, Louisiana, this institution preserves the region’s aviation history and a broader military story through artifacts, aircraft, vehicles, a research library, and memorial spaces. Named for U.S. Army Air Force General Claire Lee Chennault, it grew from reunions begun in 1986 by veterans who trained at Selman Field during World War II. Opened to the public in 2000, it expanded physically and in mission, adding exhibition and restoration space while developing aviation and military displays. After leaving the Louisiana State Museum system in 2015, it continued evolving through new leadership, university partnerships, and community programs supporting veterans, students, and public history.
