Great Northern Mountain is an 8,705-foot summit in northwestern Montana's Flathead Range, within Flathead National Forest and the Great Bear Wilderness. West of the Continental Divide, it is the wilderness area's highest point and stands out for its dramatic local relief, rising about 5,100 feet above both Hungry Horse Reservoir and the Middle Fork Flathead Valley over short distances. Named for the Great Northern Railway and later lending its name to Great Northern Brewing Company, it reflects the region's railroad-era history. Its alpine subarctic climate brings snowy winters, summer thunderstorms, and supports Stanton Glacier, while its runoff drains toward Stanton Creek and Hungry Horse Reservoir.
