Crystal Lake
History
8
In 1873, an ambitious but ill-advised effort sought to connect Crystal Lake and Lake Michigan with a navigable channel. At that time, Crystal Lake stood much higher than it does today. The project completely failed in its intended purpose, but it lowered the lake, exposed a wide stretch of beach around the entire lake, and made possible the development of Crystal Lake as a resort and residential area as well as the site of the village of Beulah.
