The J. M. Davis Arms and Historical Museum in Claremore, Oklahoma, grew from J. M. Davis’s lifelong collecting into a major public institution centered on one of the state’s largest firearms displays. Its holdings include more than 20,000 firearms and related objects from around the world, alongside beer steins, music boxes, swords, Native American artifacts, household antiques, cattle brands, and World War I posters. After Davis began displaying guns at his hotel, the collection expanded from unusual historic weapons to vast material culture. In 1965, ownership passed to a foundation and then to the state, ensuring the collection would be preserved and exhibited free to the public.
