The Will Rogers Memorial Museum in Claremore, Oklahoma, occupies a hilltop site Will Rogers bought in 1911 for a planned retirement home above the Tiawah Valley. After his death, his widow, Betty Rogers, donated the land, his papers, and personal effects to Oklahoma in 1937, creating the foundation for a memorial and museum. The original limestone building opened in 1938, and a major addition in 1983 greatly expanded its space. The museum preserves artifacts, photographs, manuscripts, films, speeches, and recordings related to Rogers’ life, and its grounds include the family tomb where Rogers, Betty Rogers, and several relatives are buried.
