In the 1920s, a popular place in Atlanta for a cool ice cream soda, a fresh cigar, or a fancy candy treat was the Wisteria Café and Confectionary. According to its ads in The Atlanta Argus, the Wisteria also specialized in chicken dinners at noon and night during fair week for only 50 cents, and its inviting summer interior was promoted with the slogan "Kome, Keep Kool." In June 2003, Nancy Bennett of Centerville, Iowa designed the "Wisteria Café" mural using original advertising copy from The Atlanta Argus, and it was completed during the "LetterRip on Rt. 66" gathering of approximately 100 Letterheads in Atlanta, a group of sign painters from across the United States and Canada interested in preserving the art of painting outdoor signs and murals.
