A faint original "Reisch Beer" mural on the second story of this building advertised that Reisch Beer would give health and strength. Franz Reisch erected the building in 1894 as an outlet for beer from his Reisch Brewing Co. in Springfield, IL. The original mural’s peacock logo had become nearly illegible, but a 1919 postcard on which it was clearly printed made it possible for Dave "Herbie" Estes of Gilbertsville, Kentucky to recreate the design, using the original mural as inspiration for the design and execution of the current "Reisch Beer" mural. The current mural was completed in June 2003 during the "LetterRip on Rt. 66" gathering of about 100 Letterheads in Atlanta, a group of sign painters from across the United States and Canada interested in preserving the art of painting outdoor signs and murals.
