Peshtigo River State Forest, officially the Governor Earl Peshtigo River State Forest, is a protected area in northeastern Wisconsin spanning parts of Marinette and Oconto counties along the Peshtigo River near Governor Thompson State Park. Established in 2001 as Wisconsin’s newest state forest, it covers 12,400 acres, including about 25 miles of river, 3,200 acres of water, and 9,200 acres of forest. Its landscape is defined by a mix of wooded land and river habitat rather than one continuous upland forest. The forest is also managed for limited personal-use harvesting, and in 2024 it ranked as Wisconsin’s tenth most popular state park or state forest unit.
