Tecate Peak
History
1
Tecate Peak is a mountain near Tecate in southern California, about four miles west of the twin towns of Tecate, California, and Tecate, Baja California, and roughly one-half mile north of the Mexico–United States border. Also known as Kuuchamaa, with several variant spellings, it is a sacred mountain for the Indigenous Kumeyaay people. In recent years, part of the mountain has been damaged by U.S. government work to expand the border wall, despite protests from Kumeyaay people and Mexicans.
