Built of cottonwood logs from Yakima River Canyon by Samuel Bedient Olmstead in 1875, this cabin was used as a fort during the Nez Pierce Indian War. Olmstead was a Union soldier in 1881 and a descendant of Captain Richard Olmstead of Hartford, Connecticut, 1632. It is associated with the Margaretta Painter Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, in Kittitas County, Washington.
