The M/V Wild Goose was placed on the National Register of Historic Places by the United States Department of the Interior. Its Grand Salon originally served as a family room, where John Wayne brought his Screen Actors Guild screeners and watched movies during trips. The room retains authentic furniture from that period, including a settee used like a couch and a table used for poker with the Rat Pack. Its original wet bar and soda fountain remained in place, though the children said the fountain never worked properly. A large wall mural commissioned by John Wayne depicts a naval battle of Admiral Nelson. The movie posters and pictures of the Duke were added later; originally, John Wayne used the room to display plaques he received during his travels.
