Hezekiah Adkins (1759-1842) is buried nearby with his wife Mary Levon (1768-1855). He served as a private under Captain John Lucas in the Montgomery County militia, claimed service on New River against Native Americans, and helped guard wagons of lead from Virginia mines. Around 1810, he settled near Bowens Creek.
