Goshen Cumberland Presbyterian Church, on the Boiling Fork of Elk 1 ½ miles southeast, is the oldest church in Franklin County. It was founded in 1808 by the Alexander, Cowan, Keith, McCord, Weir, and other pioneer Scots-Irish Presbyterian families. It was the first Presbyterian congregation in Tennessee to transfer to the Cumberland Presbytery after its organization in 1810, and it was the site of the first camp meeting sponsored by the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
