From 1861 to 1865, Polk County Confederate soldiers served in units that included Polk County's Company E, 5th Tennessee Cavalry; Ducktown's Company F, 29th Tennessee Infantry, and Company A, 43rd Tennessee Infantry; and Benton's Company D, 3rd Tennessee Infantry, Company C, 3rd Tennessee Infantry, and Company B, 29th Tennessee Infantry.
