Stroud Massacre
Military
1
After the signing of treaties in 1768, the Stroud family settled on Stroud's Creek near its junction with the Gauley River. In 1772, Mrs. Stroud and seven children were killed by a Shawnee war party. Recorded accounts of a subsequent attack by settlers on the Delaware village at Bulltown remain unproven. This was the last attack launched by Native Americans in Webster County.
