The Sycamore Tree
Transportation
8
A sycamore tree stood several hundred feet west of this site on the historic Two Notch Road, and local tradition held that a succession of sycamore trees there had long served as a landmark or point of reference since the road was an Indian path. According to that tradition, George Washington rested there in 1791, and this tree was planted from a cutting of the old sycamore.
