Samuel Casey, 1788-1859, served as Treasurer of the United States from 1853 to 1859 under Presidents Pierce and Buchanan. He lived in Caseyville, three miles west, from 1811 to 1859. He was elected clerk of the Circuit and County Courts and later served in the State Senate from 1830 to 1832.
