Lincoln Spoke Here
Morganfield, Kentucky
History
In 1840, at age 31, Abraham Lincoln gave his only political speech in his native state here. An elector from Illinois, he campaigned for Whig presidential candidate William Henry Harrison. From Shawneetown, across river, Lincoln led parade. Young ladies rode on floats drawn by white horses. A cannon for salute burst upon firing, and its breech is at Kentucky Historical Society.
