Chief Cheley Peak is a high summit in Colorado’s northern Front Range, rising on the Continental Divide within the protected wilderness of Rocky Mountain National Park west of Estes Park. Named for outdoor educator Frank Cheley, it occupies alpine terrain between Grand and Larimer counties. Its elevation gives it an alpine subarctic climate, with cold, snowy winters, cool to warm summers, year-round precipitation, and frequent summer thunderstorms, followed by a relatively drier late spring. As part of the park’s backcountry, the mountain remains valued among the prominent high summits along this section of the Front Range.
