Lost Cove Cave, also called Buggytop Cave, is a major cave in southern Tennessee near Sewanee and Sherwood, close to the Alabama border, within the Carter Natural Area of South Cumberland State Park. It is known for an exceptionally large main entrance and for archaeological evidence of long prehistoric use, including material from the Woodland and Mississippian periods. The cave has three notable entrances: the vast Buggytop opening, the Great Room entrance formed by collapse, and Peter Cave, which leads to the Indian Room. Its setting is shaped by Lost Cove Creek, and archaeological work there in 1959 to 1961 helped document its human history.
