Belleplain State Forest is a 21,320-acre protected forest in northern Cape May County and eastern Cumberland County, known for young pine, oak, and Atlantic white cedar on relatively fertile Pine Barrens soils. Established in 1928, it was extensively shaped in the New Deal era when the Civilian Conservation Corps created Lake Nummy from Meisle Cranberry Bog and built headquarters, roads, bridges, dams, and other infrastructure. Today it supports recreation including camping, boating, hunting, fishing, swimming, hiking, and horseback riding. It is also valued for wildlife, especially birds, and expanded in 2002 with donated woodland and Cedar Lake on West Creek.
