Lenna Lowe Yost, born in 1878 in Basnettville, Marion County, became president of the Women's Christian Temperance Union by 1908 and led the state suffrage movement in 1917, contributing to the 1920 passage of the 19th Amendment giving women the right to vote. She was the first woman to chair the West Virginia Republican Party convention and to be appointed to the State Board of Education. She also served as Director of the National Republican Party Women's Division and died on 5 May 1972.
