Presented on November 8, 1937, by Mrs. Sadie B. Knox and heirs in memory of her father, Vincent E. Barnes, born October 9, 1849, and died December 4, 1933, Apremont Park honors a lifelong resident and distinguished citizen of Hampden County who donated this site as Camp Bartlett, consisting of 1017 acres, to the United States Government during the World War for military purposes. The 104th U.S. Infantry, A.E.F., 26th Division trained on these grounds from August to October 1917.
