The Challenge / The Response
History
2
On June 30, 1925, Helen Keller appealed to Lions to help hasten a day with no preventable blindness, no deaf blind child left untaught, and no blind man or woman unaided, urging those with sight, hearing, strength, bravery, and kindness to become Knights of the Blind in a crusade against darkness. In response, the Lions of District "46" pledged to constitute themselves Knights of the Blind, to continue assisting those less fortunate than themselves, to strive to eradicate the cause through continued research in the prevention and cure for blindness, and to remain good and faithful Knights of the Blind, knowing that they had received as richly as they had given.
