Rockwell Light stands in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, in the northern harbor area, where it marks a private harbor and the entrance to the Fox River. Conceived by William Bray as a needed navigation aid at a busy waterfront, the project began in 1909. After the architect he hired died that year, Bray finished the lighthouse with his own money in 1910. The light remained on official light lists for decades, and as port traffic grew, the government helped pay some expenses because of its usefulness. Later sold and restored, it became associated with the Cook & Brown Lime Company, illustrating how private industry and public navigation needs overlapped.
