Mount Clark is an 11,527-foot granite peak in Yosemite National Park’s Clark Range, rising south of Yosemite Valley as a prominent climbing objective and one of the park’s named summits tied to early exploration. The mountain and range were named for Galen Clark, an early explorer and Yosemite’s first guardian. Before that, the peak was called Gothic Peak and later The Obelisk by the Whitney Survey. Its first recorded ascent came in 1866, when Clarence King and James Gardener of the U.S. Geological Survey reached the summit. Obelisk Lake on its northeast flank preserves the mountain’s earlier name.
