Clouds Rest is a prominent mountain in Yosemite National Park whose narrow arête was shaped by glacial erosion as ice carved Tenaya Canyon and Little Yosemite Valley, leaving an exposed granite crest above Yosemite Valley. Though not among the park’s highest summits, its position gives it exceptional visual prominence, including a steep northwest face rising about 5,000 feet above Tenaya Creek. It can be reached by several hiking routes, and its summit offers panoramic views in all directions. The name was recorded by Lafayette H. Bunnell, who recalled that his party named it after seeing clouds settling upon the mountain before a snowstorm.
