Blue Licks Battlefield State Resort Park near Mount Olivet preserves the site of the Battle of Blue Licks, fought on August 19, 1782, in the aftermath of the attack on Bryan's Station. After British Captain William Caldwell and his Native allies withdrew, Kentucky militia pursued despite Daniel Boone's warning to wait. At Blue Licks, 176 men engaged Caldwell's force; 60 were killed, including Boone's son Israel, and 7 were captured before the survivors retreated. Long known for its salt springs, the area later became a mineral-water resort. The park also includes a museum, natural preserve, and ongoing efforts to better understand and preserve the battlefield.
