The Battle of the Blue Licks, described as the last battle of the Revolution, was fought on August 19, 1782, in defense of Kentucky between 182 Kentuckians on the American side, commanded by Colonel John Todd, and about 240 Indians and Canadians on the British side, commanded by Captain William Caldwell. The opposing Native forces included Shawnees and Delawares, as well as Wyandots and Mingoes, Ottawas and Chippewas. The Kentuckians advanced in three divisions and fought valiantly, and those who fought and fell were honored as heroic pioneers. Among the American officers were Colonel-Commandant John Todd, Lieutenant-Colonels Daniel Boone and Stephen Trigg, Majors Edward Bulger, Silas Harlan, William Francis McBride Jr., Hugh McGary, and Levi Todd, along with captains, lieutenants, an ensign, and a commissary, some of whom were killed, wounded, or captured. The recorded participants also included many privates who escaped and many privates who were killed.
