In 1769, four miles south near a cave in the creek bank, Robert Crockett, a kinsman of David, had a hunting camp with two companions, reportedly Joseph Drake and Kasper Mansker. Crockett was ambushed and killed by Indians, and his companions buried him on a hill overlooking their camp.
