Gaskill Park was named for Burton Gaskill, a prominent Atlantic County leader born in Mays Landing in 1889. It was built on land reclaimed by a W.P.A. project in 1937. Historically, the site had been George Wheaton's shipyard, and the West Jersey and Seashore Railroad passed through it on the way to Atlantic City.
