The first story of the house’s east wing was the earliest brick residence in Grayson County. Jack Thomas, the first county and circuit court clerk, built it about 1810 and added a two-story brick wing on the north in the Federal style. Despite alterations in the 1870s and 1880s, the original walls remain, and a striking construction feature is the uniform log joists supporting the first floor.
